The atmosphere is of a rustic and warm kind which draws a certain southern charm. We were greeted by the waitress who wasted no time in bringing us some water and gave us ample time to look the menu over. I ordered a crab cake appetizer and was very pleased. The cake had been cooked fresh and was at a perfect temperature when it reached the table. The house salad was simple, with mainly ice burg lettuce with few vegetables, so I would recommend a different salad to accompany a meal. I had the catfish special with cheese grits and the vegetable of the day. The fish was fried to a golden brown and really tasty. The cheese grits were some of the best I ever had. As for the vegetable of the day, it was never brought to me, although I never queried the waitress. The only other downside to the meal was that I was never asked if I had saved room for desert. The waitress simply came around with all of our checks, which is a shame because the portion sizes given were perfect and I had ample room for some desert and coffee. I would still recommend the Frederica House to anyone, just be sure to ask for desert! I'm sure it would be great!

Went looking for a home cooked southern seafood meal. Rustic atmosphere was neat that is about it. Only crab on menu was Alaskan king. This is Georgia and this place is on an island. The only local seafood was shrimp. Even the fish of the day wasn't sold as fresh that day. Nothing really southern or fresh about this restaurant. Skip this one.

Excellent and friendly service. Food was delicious and very fresh tasting. Owner even came and talked to each table. A lot quieter than the places by the pier. Glad we tried it!

Great atmosphere! So charming! The food was great! Pasta, steak or seafood. Service was good too! The owner came to our table to check on us and was very friendly! Only problem I would say is that the prices are kinda high, but not too unreasonable.

DISGUSTING!!!!!!!! Will never visit again . WE Went there for mothers day dinner. First off the worm wood motif reminds me of a terrible terminate infestation. Then the food was extremely bland no flavor . 2 entrees and 2 kids meals came out to $78. The chicken I ordered was watery tasting no hint of the pineapple taste described, the catfish no flavor either. For the price tag ($16 for 2 thin chicken breasts) I definitely expect my money's worth. It was worse than dive bar food that you order just to have something in your stomach. Went home stomach and taste buds annoyed

Charming, rustic atmosphere in a cool old house. Excellent service. Food pretty good, not great. Probably closer to 3-1/2 stars.

We are visiting the island and came in for our last night here. The service was friendly and welcoming. They cook with peanut oil on pretty much everything, and my son is severely peanut allergic. The waitress offered to cook him fish separately and made special accommodations for him to make him feel safe and special --really going above and beyond the call of duty. The service gave this place 5 stars!

Enjoyed a delicious New Year's Eve dinner at this wonderful historical restaurant. Lightly dusted fried shrimp and perfectly prepared oysters combined to make a dinner to order again. Slaw and hush puppies were delicious complements to a perfect meal. Wait staff was very attentive seating us right away. Frederica House is definitely on our list of restaurants to visit again.

Had a wonderful meal tonight here tonight!! Enjoyed the fish and chicken specials, but the best was the peanut butter pie for dessert... Amazing!
The Frederica House restaurant is located in the mid north section of the Island on Frederica Road across the street from the First Sea Palms entrance. The Frederica house menu is sustained by their local seafood but is bolstered by their choice of steak, chicken and pasta dishes. Their Southern Style suppers are sought out island visitors and sought out by the in the know locals. The front porch serves as an entryway to the restaurant which was built with white cedar logs that remind you of driftwood. Their grilled and blackened seafood and hand carved steaks, chicken and pasta dishes are very popular. One of my favorites at The Frederica house is the shrimp and grits. They always have a special vegetable every night and mu favorite are the lima beans. Their chocolate peanut butter pie is also very good.

I agree with Tina C. Food is OK but I wouldn't make a special trip to eat there. I thought it was a little pricey. Good place to take kids as there is lots of noise.

Had dinner there and the service was great. Food left a lot to be desired. From the salad to the main course there was disappointment. Not worth the hefty price that came at the end.

There is a reason that the "Fred House" has remained a favorite among the island locals for years. The fried oysters are my personal favorite, but from Richard's welcome greeting at the front door to the table service the Frederica House has consistently put the customer first. The menu offers a wide selection of dishes and, when I have dined there with groups of friends, everyone finds their favorite seafood, pasta, beef or other entree. Prides are mid-range. The drinks are served from a wonderful bar in the main dining room. Standouts on the menu include shrimp, scallops, steaks, oysters, nightly fresh vegetables, great coleslaw and the only place I know that serves "Paris" dressing as an option on the salad. The wormy wood used in decorating this restaurant adds a lot to the decor and has a history. Ask Richard about it.

I really enjoyed my dinner here. Sadly, I think it is one of those places that I think people tend to forget about or never try, but I would absolutely return. The fried shrimp appetizer was fresh, and just lightly fried to bring out the flavor of the fresh shrimp. Onion Rings were great, and the scallops were pan-seared very nicely. Service was excellent. The waitress was Australian and just very lovely. The interior was cozy. I'm a fan.

We were disappointed. It seems that the quality has gone down hill throughout the years. Food is overpriced for what you get. Charming interior though.

The old worm wood interior and wide board siding exterior of the Fredreca house is authentic and unique. I wish I could say that for the food... it's not very good. I had the combo shrimp and scallops. Both were very over cooked. The sides of cheese grits and black eyed peas were acceptable but cold. Nothing on my plate was ever warm? The service is friendly, but in not way makes up for a pretty bad meal. Worse of all... IT's Very Over Priced! Save your money and go elsewhere. $60.00 for 2 entrée and an app (very small servings)? I've had $7.00 meat and three experiences that blow this joint away. Food Quality: 4 Pricing: 5 (wildly over priced) Service: 7 (nice people) Atmosphere: 7 (worm wood is not that appetizing)
